REPORT: Chicagoans Googled The Milwaukee Brewers More Than The Chicago Cubs in 2018
blockchicago.com – Chicago loves soccer — or watching the World Cup, anyway.
“World Cup” was the single most-searched term on Google by people in Chicago and throughout the United States in 2018, according to the search company.
Other standouts: Chicagoans searched for the Brewers enough that the Milwaukee-based team became the seventh-most-Googled term in the city. That’s no surprise as the team came from behind to steal the division from the Cubs, forcing Chicago’s boys in blue to play a wildcard game. The Cubs lost and were knocked out of the playoffs.
(Or maybe people were just really curious about where they could grab a beer?)
Chicagoans also searched for the “Van Dyke trial” as they looked for information about Chicago officer Jason Van Dyke, who in October was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of black teen Laquan McDonald.
Otherwise, the city’s top searches largely mirrored those of the entire United States, with Chicagoans searching for information about the Mega Millions lottery, “Black Panther” and celebrities.
Chicago’s top 10 Google searches:
- World Cup
- Mac Miller
- Kate Spade
- Anthony Bourdain
- “Black Panther”
- Mega Millions
- Brewers
- Demi Lovato
- Aretha Franklin
- Van Dyke trial
Well would ya look at this? Looks like the whole “WERE NOT AFRAID OF THE BREWERS” Cubs’ fan narrative is scientifically proven as false? I mean…. the Brewers are the Cubs’ little brother right? RIGHT???
But but but… if the Brewers are the Cubs’ little brother then why are Cubs fans googling them literally more than any other sports team on earth?? ARE YOU SCARED??? Hahaha… Theo’s league though amirite?
Yada yada the Cubs are gonna get Bryce Harper because his dog’s named Wrigley yada yada the Cubs’ have unlimited money, yada yada the South Side is a dump and Machado or Harper would NEVER play there yada yada yada the Cubs are the best team in baseball
Listen, I know I’m petty. I know I have an extreme inferiority complex about what the Cubs have done over the last 5 years, especially in comparison to the Sox. I admit all of that. But I also know that Cubs fans are getting just a littttttle bit nervous with their current roster construction and managerial makeup. How could they not? Their payroll is maxed out, their pitching staff is razor thin and their coaching staff turn has more turnover than a logistics brokerage.
Hilarious. Carl has some intel that if the season doesn’t get off to a good start, that it could be a looooong year on the North Side.
We talked about this a little bit on Red Line Radio this week.
